Update @ 09-April-08: Since this is probably my most popular landing page from the search engines for those seeking out sample dashboards, Xcelsius or otherwise, I thought I’d post an update.
After almost a year and with a dozen or so Xcelsius dashboards in production, the original image no longer reflects my work. It was in fact the very first working model I produced in Xcelsius 4.5.
Now that I’m a bit older and wiser here’s a shot from recent work that better reflects where I’m at.
For anyone interested in designing executive dashboards, here’s a shot of one I’ve been working on.
It makes good use of dynamic visibility to display greater detail for underlying metrics associated with the chosen KPI and uses XSQL under Tomcat to dynamically query an Oracle database.

Excelsius rocks. Been using it for some months now. I clicked your dashboard but it seems to be just an image. Why not post the SWF to this page? 😉 Cheers from San Diego.
Hi Steve
This work is ongoing for a large client and due to this I need to be careful what I post.
It’s further complicated by the fact that this dashboard contains 5 XML data connectors pulling results back for sections of the dashboard from an Oracle ODS on an in-house database dump so connectivity would not work over the web.
I’ve taken a snapshot for how the dashboard looks when viewing data for a particular day (July 9th) and you can try that out here :

The dynamic visibility needs tweaking but you get the idea!!
I agree, Xcelsius does rock!
Couple of thoughts based on some CX experience and work with my clients:
1. Gauges – take up a lot of real estate – perhaps try some bar charts with very minimal text / axis formatting
2. Selector – consider added a rolling selector to pick the name / division you want
3. Icons – I’m a big fan of simple is better. Consider adding red / yellow / green icons and trend arrows to maximize info in a small space
If you are interested, check out some sample work we have done, including icons, selectors and gauges (particularly the human capital example) at: http://www.inverra.com/Dashboards/dashboards.htm
[…] Here’s another sample Xcelsius dashboard I just finished off today (thanks Gareth!). Unlike the first sample which used XSQL to directly query the database, this one has been built with Live Office […]
[…] Bytes – Doing IT in Dublin has contributed some great Xcelsius Dashboard examples. Have a look: Take 1, Take 2, Take 3, and Take 4. I recommend you have a look if you are interested in the power of data […]
Here’s what doesn’t ROCK… Xcelsius is incredibly expensive, licensing is ridiculous, especially if you want to deploy to your business with interactive “live” reprots. Don’t believe it, read the license or better yet, call and ask them!
That’s why we didn’t go with this product. But what did you expect, it’s Business Objects, they did the same with Crystal Enterprise… 50K+ Come to think of it, I’m glad I no longer do Crystal after 11 years.
I prefer Reporting Services 2005 mucho, mucho better…
Expressions is the way to go!
